MasterCard is recruiting a Software Engineering Manager to lead software engineering teams developing advanced technologies and applications that are revolutionizing payments. Role

  • Hands-on technical leader who brings considerable experience doing application development for backend, web and mobile applications, using a broad range of technologies.

  • Lead and contribute the design, implementation, documentation, testing, and delivery for engineering efforts across a program.

  • Employee Performance Management at year end

  • Assess functional requirements and NFRs from the technical feasibility perspective

o Work with business analysis & software engineering team to translate requirements to workable architecture, design & implementations

o Supervise & review design & implementation to comply with the internal guidelines, industry best practices and quality attributes

  • Generate and manage reference architectures to preserve & reuse the knowledge, produce artifacts for the technology architecture & design knowledgebase

  • Actively engage in knowledge sharing with the project team, serving as a thought leader, providing guidance to the team on standards, tools and technologies

  • Facilitate the architecture & design process, participate in making decisions on technology and software architecture

  • Responsible for hiring and developing engineering talent.

  • Owner of one or more major functional areas of our code.

  • Collaborate across other teams to deliver results.

• Provide strategic thinking and leadership related to a wide range of applications and systems, or software-development methodologies

• Benchmark and drive engineering productivity, quality, and technology policy compliance in the areas of ownership

• Proactively share and seek knowledge within their Guild/Program to drive reuse of patterns/libraries/practices and enhance productivity

Degree in Computer Science or related information technology management field.

  • You have experience in performance management of your team members

  • You have strong decision-making skills, and you have a bias for action rather than drawn-out analysis because you understand that most decisions are not irreversible.

  • You regularly lead retrospection, and continually improve as a result.

  • You have strong collaborative and organizational skills and you value transparency over avoiding scrutiny.

  • You understand how to guide an engineer’s career including performance evaluation, coaching, and motivation.

  • You are experienced in distributed system design and implementation, and understand how to build high-performance, high-reliability operation of large-scale distributed systems. You master consensus mechanisms, partitioning and sharding, and reliability engineering.

  • You have expert level knowledge of software development processes, and you practice Agile at an advanced level.

  • You have experience and knowledge of Test Driven and Domain Driven Development (TDD / DDD).

  • You are an experienced user of one or more Application Lifecycle Management tools (e.g., Rally, Jira).

  • As a leader, you own your code repositories. You are a Git expert, and have experience with one or more SCM hosting tools such as GitHub or BitBucket. Your repositories look like trees, not bushes.

  • You are experienced with CI/CD

COVID-19 Considerations

In many locations, which may change over time, we’ve implemented a virtual hiring process and continue to interview candidates by video or phone. In addition, in some locations, only individuals who have been fully vaccinated will be permitted inside Mastercard offices until further notice.

In the US, Mastercard is a government contractor, which may legally require most Mastercard employees to be vaccinated unless a verified approved medical or religious exemption is granted.
