Communications Manager, Canada
Mastercard has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Communications professional to join our North America Marketing and Communications team.
Reporting to the Vice President of Communications and working as part of the integrated Canada Marketing and Communications team, the Communications Manager will help drive Mastercards Communications program across Canada. The ideal candidate is a creative, passionate, self-motivated individual with a successful track record of developing both internal and external Communications programs that support Communications objectives and business priorities.
The Communications Manager will be responsible for helping to define, implement and execute integrated communications plans covering External Communications, Media Relations, Internal Communications/Employee Engagement, Crisis Communications, Thought Leadership, CSR and Philanthropy. The role encompasses the Mastercard brand, all business units, products, services and Corporate Communications.
An essential component of the role is to successfully work in a complex environment with multiple stakeholders. The position demands flexibility and the capacity to deal with fast-changing situations as well as having the personality and skills to work with a diverse local and virtual team.
The person in this role must be able to successfully manage projects and agency teams, while having the personal capability to lead projects without agency support.
Work as part of an integrated Canada Marketing and Communications team charged with creating, implementing and managing Communications programs in support of corporate objectives, priorities and the company's vision.
Handle press inquiries and identify issues that could impact Mastercards reputation.
Build and maintain relationships with key journalists, influencers, analysts and external stakeholders
Determine the right media mix to use in support of planned product/service launches and corporate announcements.
Organize media relations activities including press conferences, media briefings, speaking engagements and press tours.
Identify speaking opportunities/platforms and develop materials to position Mastercard executives as industry experts and thought leaders in Canada.
Lead the implementation and communications for Mastercards CSR/Philanthropy program in Canada to increase awareness and drive employee engagement.
Drive strategic internal communications plans that align with business objectives to enhance employee understanding and engagement levels.
Develop and execute internal communications programs across multiple vehicles (face to face meetings, email, intranet, webcasts, videos, and presentations.)
Lead quarterly employee town hall meetings and internal launch events.
Research and recommend innovative practices to advance internal communications and increase work collaboration/knowledge sharing.
Support regional North America Communications activities and projects outside of Canada, as needed.
All About You:
Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications or equivalent
Experience working in a global communications environment across multiple regions a plus
Proven experience creating and implementing internal communications programs that drive employee understanding and engagement
Existing relationships with technology, payment and business media and a solid understanding of the media landscape and trends in Canada
Experience working with and/or managing PR agency teams
Business-to-business communications experience, ideally in the payments or technology sector
Exceptional written and verbal communications skills, demonstrated experience framing content for diverse audiences and comfort creating new materials
Winning combination of strategic mindset and hands-on communications skills
