Manager, Software Engineering

Overview

Mastercard Payment Gateway Services is a leading supplier of online payment services. We are an innovative and ambitious market leader intent on growing our global presence. We follow the best software development and Agile practices, to deliver successfully, again and again.

As part of our ongoing expansion, we're looking for an experienced Manager of Software Engineering, Vendor Manager who is as passionate about software engineering excellence and project/program delivery as we are about excellence in financial payments.

  • Oversee global software engineering teams

  • Be part of an extensive management and delivery team working with software engineering teams to deliver the next generation capabilities of the Payment Gateway

  • Use your excellent skills in project management and vendor relationship management to remain on track and within budget while getting the most out of vendor development teams

About the role

• Lead teams of vendor developers who are designing, coding, testing, and delivering on multiple simultaneous projects to deliver software outcomes. Formally supervise vendor relationship of teams of engineers to build, enhance, and support multiple applications/services in the delivery of the Payment Gateway services

• Work on complex enterprise-wide initiatives, working with product managers to understand the need and align dev teams towards the right outcomes, and working across engineering & technology teams to organize and accelerate delivery, ensuring all teams are delivering to the right outcomes and productivity.

• Continuously engage and improve vendor teams’ performance by building strong relationships with the vendor, managing commercials inputs and outcomes, and understanding the key challenges. Benchmark and drive engineering productivity and quality.

• Trusted to: operate with independence, staying on top of tactical execution and rigorously inspecting the delivery plans and execution metrics; able to focus on ambiguous areas and identify and fill gaps and manage escalations; create the correct sense of urgency for delivery and provide ongoing updates (with data) on the state of delivery.

• Manage and optimize budgets, forecasting, and cost allocation while delivering on business needs. Create mechanisms to effectively report out and control vendor delivery against commitments. Continuously monitor and analyze key performance indicators on the vendor’s score card and move them in a positive direction.

All About You

• IT experience with successful track record in managing at-scale development organization (7+ teams) with demonstrated thought-leadership, cross-functional influence, and partnership

• Extensive experience delivering technical programs so you know where to look to find all the potential landmines. Proven track record of data driven decision making and applying continuous improvement methodologies across teams. Can communicate to management, peers, and vendors with impact, eloquence, and authenticity. Demonstrated experience building organizational relationships, partnering with and influencing management and leadership while commanding the respect of the individual engineers.

• Strength in software development practices to ensure the right quality outcomes from multiple software development teams. You understand best-practice engineering principles used in building and running mission critical software capabilities (security, customer experience, testing, operability, simplification, service-oriented architecture), including understanding of standard branching (e.g., Gitflow) and peer review practices; test driven and behavior driven development; use cases for advanced design patterns; deployment and activation strategies (blue/green; ci/cd automation; feature toggling; etc.)

• Experience in leading and coaching teams to perform software engineering for large scale complex programs, from planning and estimation through build, deploy, and delivery. Deep understanding of Agile development practices, including experience with SAFE methodology, product development management methodologies, and the ability to align engineers towards product development plans.
