Counsel Geo South
Mastercard is seeking an experienced attorney to be responsible for providing comprehensive, end-to-end, strategic support to the Latin America - Conesul countries. The Region Counsel role will provide legal support and counsel to Mastercards Latin America - Conesul Region.
Act as a day-to-day advisor by partnering with the business and legal specialists to deliver on strategy and collaborate with internal subject matter experts to better understand and be able to advise holistically on our products and relevant regulatory, compliance, privacy and antitrust issues.
Works cross-functionally with finance, sourcing and business lines to provide holistic support to the region.
Autonomously structure, draft, review and negotiate complex commercial and procurement agreements, including identifying legal and business risks and recommending solutions.
Advise on marketing campaigns and materials and engage on strategic relationships and partnership agreements with our digital partners.
Collaborate with outside counsel on effective and efficient strategies for defending pending litigations.
Respond to government inquiries/investigations concerning on-going business practices and/or investigations of third parties.
Trains and educates clients on processes, risks, changes in laws and regulations.
Identifies needed process improvements and efficiencies; owns and executes solutions to support our transformation strategy and drives towards streamlining processes to increase ease of doing business.
All About You
Law degree from a top-tier university in Brazil and licensed to practice in a local jurisdiction with extensive experience in drafting and negotiating commercial agreements.
Experience in general commercial legal matters in a reputable law firm and/or as in-house lawyer for a multinational company.
Prior knowledge of payments-related law and regulation would be desirable, but not essential.
Must be a team player and willing to take on a variety of responsibilities and roles that support the team, department and the company.
Must be able to work independently and collaboratively and multi-task effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
Should exercise good commercial judgment, be solutions-oriented and have a creative approach to problem-solving.
Must be comfortable with technology and have a strong interest in financial technology and security issues.
Fluency in English (having Spanish would be highly desirable).
