Director, Technical Program Management

About the role

• Establish the Technical Project Management capability within an international software engineering organisation

• Lead a team of Technical Project Managers, establishing what good looks like across planning, executing and delivery

• Establish the appropriate visibility and project management disciplines to effectively manage, track and deliver a portfolio of product development projects in the real-time payment space and for international customers

• Undertake delivery assurance to ascertain the level of safety in projects and agree and drive-through corrective actions to remain within schedule, quality and cost constraints

Oversee and coordinate all projects, change and transformation initiatives across the real time engineering portfolio

Main Responsibilities

• Lead a mixed (internal and supplier sourced) Technical Project Management team, establish an operating model that promotes the safe, predictable and consistent delivery of development projects

• Build strong relationships across the organisation to improve the safety of delivery, unblock issues and support the Technical Project Manager

• Lead important or high priority change initiatives

• Coordinate activity across product development and the internal transformation portfolio and ensure defined outcomes and objectives are met

• Deliver a multi-year roadmap for the engineering team’s book of work and plan the associated technology roadmap

• Help drive the overall strategy inside and outside of your team

• Develop a deep understanding of the platform, the integration patterns, the organizational capabilities, and the company wide assets that can be leveraged to provide technical solutions to customer problems

• Create a data driven and continuous learning culture across your team and use this data to drive incremental improvements

• Define and continuously monitor and analyze key performance indicators on the team’s performance and continually drive to move them in a positive direction

• Think strategically, but stay on top of tactical execution rigorously inspecting the delivery plans and execution metrics of your TPMs using your own tech depth and business acumen to assess the level of safety

• Adapt to shifting goals and activities while managing multiple activities in parallel

• Manage escalations

• Actively encourage the development of the capabilities of your team

• Effectively set expectations across the team and establish what good delivery performance looks like

• Demonstrate ability to operate with complete independence and autonomy

• Demonstrate ability to effectively lead teams to deliver against challenging delivery timescales in complex environments

• Demonstrate ability to establish a team and delivery culture

• Awareness of cloud technologies (IaaS, PaaS, serverless technology, NoSQL databases), microservice design, real-time, scalable fault tolerant platform design, API design, and distributed systems operations in a DevOps model

• Experience software development processes and in agile delivery methodologies (Scrum, LeSS, Kanban, etc.)

• Extensive experience delivering technical programs so you know where to look to find all the potential landmines

• Proven track record of data driven decision making and applying continuous improvement methodologies across teams

• Can communicate to executives, peers, and staff with impact, eloquence and authenticity

• Demonstrate experience building organizational relationships, partnering with and influencing leaders while commanding the respect of the individual engineers across the organization

• Demonstrate an understanding of our performance and leadership bar and effectively applies it to hiring decisions

• Demonstrate experience as a people manager with the ability to attract, recruit, and develop technical talent
