• the Mastercard Economics Institute’s mission is to drive macroeconomic thought leadership in support of Mastercard’s efforts to build a more inclusive and sustainable digital economy

• the Economics Institute was launched in 2020 to analyze macroeconomic trends through the lens of the consumer to deliver tailored and actionable insights on economic issues for key customers, partners and policymakers.

• In addition to global and regional macro-economic trends, the institute also produces thematic research covering consumer spending, risk, small business, policy, digital and travel.

__________________________________about the role

We are looking for a quantitative economics engineer to join Mastercard’s Economics Institute; reporting to the team lead for quantitative economics. This individual will be critical to growing the institute’s ability to disseminating content to our stakeholders and enhancing revenue driving products. An individual who will:

• play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and distributing clean, intuitive, and scalable code

• work directly with econometricians, data scientists, and product teams to build a flexible, multi-purpose modeling framework

• create software for modeling, visualization, and analysis

• augment an existing codebase, continually identifying and solving breakpoints

• have a demonstrated interest in machine learning, econometrics, and statistics

• communicate complex ideas to a non-technical audience through compelling, interactive visualizations

• be comfortable working with data engineers to define production data pipelines

• stay up to date on the latest open-source packages, frameworks, and automation methods

• participate in the entire quantitative research process

• review, test, and deploy code regularly


about you

• creative & passionate about data, coding, technology, and its applications, with an entrepreneurial mindset

• expertise in one or more of R, Python, Julia, MATLAB or similar languages;

• experience in building economic models,

• passion for generating reproducible code

• a tech savvy professional, with an entrepreneurial mindset, motivated by curiosity

• desire to learn new technologies & related fields e.g. visualization tech, distributed computing

• strong collaborator and independent thinker

• excellent at managing multiple projects and tight timelines in a fast-paced fluid environment

• proven record of creativity, innovation, and unorthodox thinking

• comfortable collaborating with economists and data scientists

• committed to continuous learning and great listener with strong ability to incorporate what is “heard/ team feedback” in to learning and action

COVID-19 Considerations
