Director - Domestic Tax Compliance and Reporting
Manages all significant aspects of the federal tax records, returns, reports and other related materials to meet compliance with all tax laws and regulations. Ensures that the financial reporting for Mastercard properly reflects its income tax expense and liabilities. Plans, develops and evaluates Mastercards tax policy, and participates in the development of tax strategy, including using legal means to minimize tax liability based on a thorough knowledge of U.S. and (to a lesser extent) international tax laws and regulations.
Responsible for significant aspects of the company's federal compliance requirements in accordance with the relevant tax law
Stays current with and communicates federal tax law changes that may impact MasterCard
Provide technical support including research, documentation of conclusion and application of tax rules to Mastercard, as required
Supports federal and state audit initiatives (for example, responds to information requests) and assist in determining strategy to defend tax positions and negotiate with tax authorities to obtain the most favorable result as needed
Review/Prepare corporate income tax provision and related footnote disclosures under
ASC 740 including memoranda and schedules necessary to support the tax provision
Establishes/Maintains global tax policies and procedures in accordance with relevant tax regulations with the objective of reducing Mastercard's effective tax rate and current tax liability
Assist in managing the relationship with independent auditors and external advisors through the coordination of information requests and through discussions surrounding tax positions taken
Responsible for the maintenance and adherence to policies that create a strong internal control environment under Sarbanes-Oxley
Serves as a consultant to Finance and other Business Partners by providing tax information
Interface with members of the tax department and other colleagues within the organization on tax planning initiatives including mergers and acquisitions, structuring of transactions and other tax opportunities permitted under relevant tax law
Assist in streamlining tasks and building technological efficiencies in an effort to improve processes while maintaining a high quality work product
Provides guidance and leadership to direct reports while employing strong project management skills
Bachelor's degree in Accounting. CPA preferred. J.D., LLM, MST, MBA helpful.
7 + years extensive knowledge in corporate taxation with an emphasis on tax compliance and transactions, coupled with tax provision experience; overall work experience will be the overriding factor when considering years of experience
Big 4 accounting background and prior corporate tax department experience preferred
Ability to interpret and apply U.S. tax law
Proven ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals in a fast-paced, changing environment
Ability to organize, manage and work effectively to accomplish multiple tasks
Proficiency in the use of a tax return preparation software; experience in CorpTax preferred
Ability to identify and implement continuous process improvements
Demonstrated ability to work independently and in groups to complete time-sensitive projects within internal and external deadlines
