Director - Domestic Tax Compliance and Reporting
The Director, Domestic Tax Compliance and Reporting will be responsible for all federal income tax compliance for MasterCard, including the federal consolidated return and other federal tax filings, as well as various aspects of accounting for income taxes in accordance with ASC 740 and the review of quarterly and annual tax footnotes within Form 10-Q and 10-K.
Director, Domestic Tax will also be responsible for contributing to the development of the overall tax strategy, including using legal means to minimize tax liability based on a thorough knowledge of U.S. and (to a lesser extent) international tax laws and regulations.
Directs tax compliance organizational goals, objectives and operating procedures.
Responsible for assuring that the federal returns meets the requirements of appropriate federal law, as well as the high documentation standards established and are timely filed.
Demonstrate taxes are properly recorded on MasterCard's books and records
Reviews/prepares ASC 740 corporate income tax provision and related footnote disclosures to be included in the annual and quarterly public filings as required.
Assist in supporting and defending issues raised in tax examinations by the federal and state taxing authorities.
Perform research on various tax issues using online tax research services
Remain aware of MasterCard business issues to determine the proper tax treatment
Ensure processes align with a strong internal control environment and Sarbanes-Oxley documentation.
Serves as a key contact for compliance function along with SBL and Group Head of Domestic Tax & Financial Reporting for colleagues outside of tax (controllers, treasury, Global Business Service Center (GBSC), benefits accounting, etc.).
Contributes to the strategy development of tax compliance and tax accounting functional areas, providing recommendations to reduce MasterCard's current tax liability and effective tax rate
Suggest and implements tax efficient solutions for effectuating transactions
Oversees the federal tax compliance function ensuring that efforts are aligned with overall business plans and specific strategic and tactical initiatives.
Prepares and communicates concise and focused tax technical documents, presentations, and communications (memos, fact sheets, etc.) which direct the reader to salient points for a wide range of technical and non-technical audiences.
Builds organizational capability within the assigned area of responsibility
Maintains current knowledge of tax trends/developments, assess the impact, and collaborates with senior management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future strategies
Fosters a strong control environment and oversees integration of those financial reporting and operational controls into daily routines.
Develop and mentor more junior staff members
All About You
BA Accounting required; CPA preferred; MST, MBA helpful
Advanced corporate tax experience with an emphasis in tax compliance and reporting
Large corporate experience and/or Big 4 accounting background preferred
Ability to identify issues/opportunities and to frame business questions
Ability to effectively perform necessary research
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
Proficient in the use of tax return preparation and/or tax provision software; familiarity with CorpTax is a plus, but not required
Working knowledge in Hyperion and or Oracle Financial Systems is a plus
Demonstrated project management experience
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Strong business acumen and professionalism with the ability to interact effectively with colleagues in all functional areas of the Company
Ability to work in a high-performing team environment
Ability to work independently and in groups to complete time-sensitive projects with internal and external deadlines
Experience with mergers and acquisitions/ integrations is a plus
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
