Job Title

Director, DEI Communications

The Strategic Growth Communications team is focused on driving programs and activities that evolve, promote, and protect Mastercard’s reputation, purpose-driven work and ESG initiatives among key internal and external audiences. The broader team has been designed to closely mirror the business, align to corporate and business-level objectives and support the company’s efforts in embedding our social impact efforts and ESG approach into our day-to-day business operations.

The Director of Communications, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), will lead on the development of strategic communications programs and narratives to advance Mastercard’s reputation as a trusted, purpose-driven organization committed to inclusion and decency, ensuring every employee has the opportunity to reach their full potential. In addition, the role will take day-to-day leadership of the holistic executive communications strategy in DEI, including the direction of editorial content, advancing the thought leadership of senior business leaders, and directing internal communications.

Responsibilities:

Work in collaboration with the Senior Vice President, Strategic Growth Communications, other senior business and marcomm leaders to develop progressive, integrated communications and marketing strategies to advance the company’s mission, and evolve, promote and protect Mastercard’s brand and reputation

• Drive the development of holistic internal and external communications initiatives for Mastercard’s DEI efforts in support of the priority, enterprise-wide DEI programs

• Refine and embed our DEI Narrative and connect to the business and to the broader ESG story and brand purpose

• Be an advocate and critical thinker with partners, including to identify and uplift stories that minimize reputational risk and maximize positive exposure for our work

• Identify industry and market trends to understand key perceptions, motivations and drivers related to corporate DEI initiatives

• Stay informed on key DEI issues and matters with an ability to provide counsel to the organization on Mastercard role and response

• Enable greater alignment and support of regional communications activities through incremental set of tools and processes

• Leverage relationships with key media and influentials to support Mastercard’s work in this area

• Apply a data-led, earned-centric approach to digital content development and executive content

• Partner across global comms to coordinate and direct sustained internal communications programs

• Manage and mentor a cross-functional team

• Use measurement tools to assess the impact of communications programs to refine activities

Qualifications:

You are a motivated, curious, critical thinker, with a passion for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), comfortable debating the potential it has to positively impact individuals, businesses, governments and economies. You are a clear, strategic writer, capable of distilling complex arguments and propositions into accessible and compelling narratives. And you are a passionate leader and mentor, motivated by the development of teams and individuals around you, driving mutual accountability and celebrating shared success.

• Subject matter expert on DEI and close partner and advisor to the DEI team and the brand

• Excellent written and oral communications skills; flawless editing to support clear ideas

• Strong relationship management skills and ability to work collaboratively and deliver results with global, multi-cultural and remote project teams

• Creative thinker possessing high level of comfort with fast-paced, dynamic work environment

• Strong ability to prioritize, multitask and manage to deadlines

• Led complex cross-functional projects Issues and crisis management experience preferred, but not required

• Ability to translate complex business, economic and policy issues material into easily understood, actionable programs

• Comfortable presenting complex issues to internal and external audiences

• Solid understanding of balancing and prioritizing needs of multiple stakeholders

• Strong project management skills to drive forward long-term projects and initiatives, including annual reports, recognition programs and other priority deliverables

• Experience working with diverse demographics, including other countries and business or employee resource groups (BRGs), including nuanced and sensitive issues

• Experience working with C-Suite/executive level handling, media training, speech and ghostwriting, thought leadership

• Digital media and creative tools a plus (Adobe Creative Suite, web UX, social media best practices, new platforms including Metaverse, Web3.0)

Westchester County Salary Range: $151,000 - $233,000
