Senior Database Engineer , Database Engineering

Overview:

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strong technical experience in Postgres and Redis.

Identifies and selects appropriate technologies, develops, builds, maintains and tests database technologies, including associated software products

Supports the development of SQL tuning statement procedures to optimize SQL tuning and query development

Assists in performing database implementations to ensure configuration, process, and procedure standards are in place

Supports database security posture which includes escalating potential concerns, and implementing both risk mitigation plans and control functions

Drafts and reviews status reports and performs implementation and troubleshooting activities

Provides high-level technical assistance to development programmers and customers to ensure proper database performances

Implements business and process improvements, formulating recommendations to increase database performance efficiencies

May manage smaller project/initiatives as an experienced individual contributor with specialized knowledge within assigned discipline

JOB SPECIFIC EXPERIENCES

Experience in database technology (Postgres,Redis preferred), technical or application area

Experience designing and testing database architecture standards or frameworks

Gains exposure to automation and/or cloud delivery effort

Experience participating in an assigned global technology domain or sub-domain (e.g., providing inputs around specific technologies)

Participates in business resource groups and global communities

Strong experience in configuring, patching, upgrading, and optimizing database software and related products.

Strong experience in security, backup/recovery, architecture, networking, and administration for database disciplines.

Participates and/or assists the team in the development, maintenance, testing, implementation, and support of assigned database technologies and associated software products.

Proactively monitor and troubleshoot database issues escalated by the business team and internal monitoring in a timely manner with strong skills to drive to root cause and remediation of issues.

Strong understanding with the creation and implementation of data definition language (DDL) to support development efforts.

Understand database security topics including database users, roles, and privileges.

Understand cloud concepts including database administration activities in cloud solutions.

Partners with technology teams and customers to understand business needs and can communicate solutions in business terms with mentoring.

Intermediate to strong performance and tuning skills with the ability to identify, respond and resolve database performance issues; communicates database performance resolution to technical teams.

Successfully follow change management, problem management and incident management processes and procedures.

May manage moderate to large project/initiatives with specialized knowledge within assigned discipline.

Strong written and verbal communication skills to promote Database Engineering in support of sound database structures, data governance, standards, and procedures to internal and external teams.

Strong documentation skills to contribute to Database Engineering processes and procedures.

BROADENING EXPERIENCES

Demonstrated initiative in building relationships with colleagues from multiple areas within Mastercard

Exposure to internal resources and tools (e.g., TBD)

Experienced in report writing, data analysis, and formal presentation skills.
