Experienced Technical Communicator

Core Responsibilities

Interpret and transform source content into concise language that will be clearly understood and expand reader comprehension.

This is achieved by adhering to the following principles:

€“ Use simplified English/minimalism

€“ Apply uniform tone and consistent voice

€“ Use active vs. passive voice

€“ Comply with CTC topic-based authoring principles and Information

Model, using DITA XML to author structured content

€“ Assess content overlap or discrepancies and work with subject matter experts (SMEs) to help ensure accuracy of content

€“ Identify opportunities for reuse to gain maximum return from single sourcing

Establish and expand connections to build a network of subject matter experts.

Continually interview and interact with pertinent stakeholders when writing, revising, and reviewing technical content

Build business knowledge and expertise as it relates to understanding

MasterCard systems, products, and services

Educate stakeholders about the processes, offerings, and value added services CTC provides

Simplify processes and increase efficiencies by identifying effective use of CTC tools. Demonstrate and share these efficiencies (tips and tricks) with fellow staff members.

Author content using content development/management methodologies such as agile (feature-based) or waterfall (traditional) such as agile (feature-based) or waterfall (traditional)

Act as or partner with CTC Project Manager to develop and proactively manage project schedules from inception to publication

Schedule and participate in SME and peer content reviews to refine and improve content

Partner with CTC Information Architect for support related to content organization (maps, templates, style sheets, and architectural framework)

Partner with CTC Technical Editor and the Standards team for support related to style guidelines and standards, simplified technical English, content uniformity, and editorial review

Upload content to Vasont in a timely manner

Archive support by uploading it into the Vasont Support Collection in a timely manner

Mentor new associates or seasoned associates, as needed, during role or task transitions


Bachelor€™s degree in English, Technical Communications, Journalism, or

Technical Communications certification from an accredited school

Experience using the following applications/technologies: MS Office suite proficiency (including Visio), Adobe Acrobat Pro, Snag-It, HTML/XML, oXygen, Vasont

Experience with minimalism in structured writing, topic-based authoring

(DITA), and/or related writing methods, such as Information Mapping

Familiarity with formal software development methodologies, including waterfall and agile

Excellent interpersonal communication skills to help enable diplomatic and effective collaboration with project teams

Acute attention to detail with strong writing and proofreading skills.

Detail oriented with strong organizational skills. Ability to manage numerous tasks and projects simultaneously

Resourcefulness and drive that sustains independent activity. Problem solver that exhibits agility and adaptability as situations, responsibilities, and efforts change.

Strong influential skills, particularly where technical information must be conveyed in a clear and convincing way with the goal of obtaining win/win negotiations

Strong technical aptitude

Ability to listen and willingness to ask questions.
