Director - Data Management(data-centric, Roadmap, Remediation)
The Data Architecture practice is a new group under Enterprise Architecture. Our remit is to champion the Enterprise data strategy, and work actively with our partners to develop, and communicate an organization-wide data architecture that enables Mastercard to pursue data as a long-term strategic differentiator. We are data geeks who are firm believers in the power of data, and the Information hierarchy, focused on leveraging cutting edge data (and analytics) platforms to provide rich insights to drive key business decisions.
Data Architecture is seeking a leader of data engineering with a passion for building data/information systems, and help the team create next gen knowledge engines to solve critical business challenges. The person in this role Director, Data Management, Enterprise Architecture will be focused on the Data Management area within the Data Architecture (DArch) team.
Data Management is a foundation area focused on establishing the current state of the data across the organization, and get a handle on the current data assets, and track the ongoing changes as we acquire additional assets, merge acquisitions, make changes to existing data flows etc. This is a cross functional role that requires building, and leading a team of Data Engineers vital in supporting and collaborating with groups including office of the Chief Data Officer (CDO), Data Science, Analytics/BI/Product, as well as our core backend platform team.
This high-performing role will report to the Senior Vice President, Data Architecture.
Lead data management functions within the Data Architecture team including data inventory, data lineage, trusted source management, acquisition and integration
Provide subject matter expertise across multiple concurrent data-centric projects, often having high levels of business complexity, and involving multiple business areas and stakeholders
Define, develop, and manage the implementation of holistic Data Management strategy, roadmap, principles and best practices
High focus on end-to-end automation for data management processes; design and implement lights-out processes that curate data and call out significant changes
Work closely with Data science team to leverage collected data for predictive insights around application and/or customer impact
Identify existing gaps and/or weaknesses within the current processes and track issues, while providing subject matter expertise in support of remediation
Collaborates with partner teams to ensure alignment with principles. Influence and/or advocate changes within the organization at all levels
As the function grows, construct and motivate a cohesive, high-performing team while fostering a continuous learning environment
Remain up to date on industry trends and ability to incorporate new technologies and concepts
All About You
Hands-on experience with large-scale data management projects, preferably in a leadership role in a complex global organization
Highly-motivated self-starter with the ability to flexibly multi-task between strategy-related work and execution in the trenches work on high profile projects. Ability to produce effective business results while under time pressures
Experience in any of the following disciplines/technologies is an advantage: data and analytics solutions, metadata management solutions, data stewardship, data categorization taxonomy and ontology models, data classification, data integration
Ability to understand and analyze complex information systems and processes and to break down complex/vague problems into simple information to aid organizational understanding and identify common themes
Experience with one or more of the latest advances in architecture, such as as a service and/or microservice SOA architectures, semantic or knowledge based technologies e.g. knowledge graphs
Experience in building a strong high-performing team and culture with direct reports; Effective interpersonal communication, relationship-building and presentation skills
Ability to work across business and technical teams to build consensus and to lead cross-functional teams of subject matter experts; Without direct authority, ability to motivate and influence others to achieve organization goals
Experience in finance industries is a plus
