Principal Software Engineer - Data Architecture

Overview:

Mastercard software engineering teams leverage Agile development principles, advanced development and design practices, and an obsession over security, reliability, and performance to deliver solutions that delight our customers. We're looking for talented Software Data Engineer to join our product engineering team to help lead and design the next generation data ecosystems for Mastercard’s Rewards suite of products.

Role:

  • Current hands-on engineer who architects, designs, and implements how data is persisted, consumed, streamed. E.g., real time vs. near real time or in memory vs. disk in support of low latency systems

  • Drive the architectural design, including dependent services, service interactions and policies

  • Create or introduce, test, and deploy disruptive technology to optimize existing services and/or create new market opportunities

  • Design and build technical roadmaps to optimize services and functions with a focus on performance and cost/benefit optimization

  • Contribute to all parts of the data infrastructure and ecosystem including design, development, documentation, and testing

  • Have strong ownership of your team’s software and obsess over the maintenance characteristics, runtime properties and dependencies – including hardware, operating system, and build

  • Communicate, collaborate and work effectively in a global environment. Public speaking as a technology evangelist for Mastercard

About You:

  • Degree in Computer Science or related field

  • Expertise related to designing and developing change data capture using tools like Kafka, Debezium, Maxwell or similar technologies

  • Experience with large scale, high-performance data stream and patterns using tools Spark, Nifi or Presto

  • Deep Knowledge of databases, both SQL and NoSQL, including proper application of different data persistence technologies e.g. Cassandra, Yugabyte, Oracle, etc.

  • Knowledge of common data patters like event sourcing, change data capture, event carried state transfer, and data mesh

  • Expert foundation in algorithms, data structures and core computer science concepts – able to teach/mentor others in their learning

  • Hands-on experience designing and implementing large scale multi-tenant distributed data architecture for OLTP type systems

  • Development experience (currently hands on) in Java, Javascript, Spring MVC / Spring boot/ Web Services, Python.

  • Experience in data architecture cloud / cloud native technology

  • Experience with Agile development methodologies such as SAFE, SCRUM, Extreme Programming, TDD etc.

  • Experience working with a source versioning tool, such as Git

  • Strong written and verbal English communications skills – prior speaking/blogging engagements in technical forums and conferences

  • Strong analytical and excellent problem-solving skills

  • Mentor and teacher of new technologies and design patterns

  • Working experience in a cloud native environments like K8s, Azure, AWS is a plus
