Ontologist - Enterprise Architecture

The Data Architecture practice is a new group under Enterprise Architecture. Our remit is to champion the Enterprise data strategy, and work actively with our partners to develop, and communicate an organization-wide data architecture that enables Mastercard to pursue data as a long-term strategic differentiator. We are data geeks who are firm believers in the power of data, and the Information hierarchy, focused on leveraging cutting edge data (and analytics) platforms to provide rich insights to drive key business decisions.

Data Architecture is seeking an Ontologist with a passion for data innovation to help solve critical business challenges. The person in this role €“ Manager, Ontology, Enterprise Architecture €“ will be focused on the Data Interoperability/ Stewartship area within the Data Architecture (DArch) team. This role is a part of the team that is focused on designing, constructing, and implementing semantic models, designing and implementing knowledge graphs, ontology design, and associated implementations. This is an exciting opportunity (with high growth potential) to be a part of a new team that will help Mastercard build out this capability.

Data Interoperability/ Stewartship is the strategic focus area of the DArch team that is responsible for future proofing the data interests of Mastercard. This is a cross functional role will contribute to creating a next gen Data fabric that is content and context aware, and requires collaborating with groups including office of the Chief Data Officer (CDO), Data Science, Analytics/BI/Product, as well as our core backend platform team.

This high-performing role will report to the Senior Vice President, Data Architecture.

Role

Leading the design and development of an enterprise ontology for a data rich, complex global organization

Work with domain experts to distill domain specific knowledge into computable elements: entities, schemas, controlled languages, and ontologies

Curating, organizing, and classifying the data with appropriate concept models and taxonomies, and creating semantic relationships between taxonomies

Extending data with synonyms, relationships, and other semantic enrichment

Work in close collaboration with Taxonomy Managers and Analysts, Product Managers, and Software Engineers to map metadata to content, source data to extend linked triple stores, and implement an ontological overlay

Identifying and connecting to other taxonomy teams within Mastercard to facilitate data sharing, standards and practices, and reduce data redundancies

Collaborates with partner teams to ensure alignment with principles. Influence and/or advocate changes within the organization at all levels

In collaboration with subject matter experts and engineers, develop the ingest requirements (file formats, metadata, and other specifics) for disparate data resources

High focus on automation, and designing scalable self curing processes; Work closely with Data science team to design/implement processes and ensure alignment

Remain up to date on industry trends and ability to incorporate new technologies and concepts; Evangelize the role of Ontology and Taxonomy

All About You

Degree in Taxonomy, Knowledge Management, Knowledge Representation, Information Science, Information Management, or other related discipline with hands-on experience with practical taxonomy and ontology modeling/implementation

Demonstrated experience in designing, constructing, and implementing semantic models; Experience designing data ontologies is essential

Hands on knowledge of one or more interoperability standards eg RDF (Resource Description Framework), RDFS, OWL (Web Ontology Language), SKOS (Simple Knowledge Organization System) etc; Demonstrated expertise with data querying (SQL, SPARQL etc)

Demonstrated experience developing knowledge organization systems, handling heterogeneous data sources for ontologies, vocabulary, metadata enhancements, and metadata curation

Demonstrated expertise with triple stores and knowledge of their place in the ecosystem of data caches and delivery funnels; Robust experience with RDF-based knowledge graphs such as Allegrograph, AnzoGraph, GraphDB or Stardog etc

Proficiency with programming languages such as Python or Java

Great verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and engaging manner to a variety of technical and non-technical audiences

Experience with integrating existing ontologies such as FIBO, Dublin Core, etc. is a plus

Experience with full-text search, data extraction, and ontology-refining feedback loops is a plus

Experience with one or more of the latest advances in architecture, such as €œas a service€ and/or microservice SOA architectures is a plus

Experience in finance industries is a plus
