Data Engineering and platform under Data Enablement program is focused on enabling insights into Mastercard network and help build data-driven products by curating and preparing data in a secure and reliable manner. Moving to a “Unified and Fault-Tolerant Architecture for Data Ingestion and Processing” is critical to achieving this mission.

As a Director of Data Engineering, you will be responsible for leading couple of teams of data engineers to design and delivery a data engineering solution for our internal and external facing business lines. You will get chance to leverage your strategic planning, business analysis and technical knowledge of data engineering, tools, and data architecture definition. In addition to managing our portfolio of data warehouse globally, you will play key roles in helping our business analyst and data scientist communities to leverage these datasets effectively.

You will play a vital role within a rapidly growing organization, while working closely with experienced and driven engineers to solve challenging problems, also produce documentation and lead training sessions for data engineering solutions.

Your Role

• Build and manage teams of talented data engineers with the ability to not only keep up with, but also pioneer, in this space.

• Collaborate with and influence leadership so that your teams work directly impacts company strategy and direction.

• Develop deep partnerships with engineering and product teams to deliver on major cross-functional measurements with good data quality.

• Communicate effectively to all levels of the organization, including executives.

• Experience instilling a culture of ownership, collaboration, and results.

• Ability to quickly identify an opportunity and recommend possible technical solutions.

• Provide support for deployed data applications and analytical models by being a trusted advisor to Data Scientists and other data consumers by identifying data problems and guiding issue resolution with partner Data Engineers and source data providers.

• Ensure proper data governance policies are followed by implementing or validating Data Lineage, Quality checks, classification, etc.

• Impact business in utilizing data-driven insights to drive growth and transformation.

• Support data analysts as needed, advising on data definitions, and helping them derive meaning from complex datasets.

• Work with cross functional agile teams to drive projects through full development cycle.

• Help the team improve with the usage of data engineering best practices.

• Collaborate with other data engineering teams to improve the data engineering ecosystem and talent within Mastercard.

All About You

• At least Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Statistics, Business Analytic or Technology related field or equivalent work experience

• experience in managing teams in areas of Analytics/Data Science/Data Engineering or Quantitative fields

• Experience designing a data engineering roadmap and executing the vision behind it.

• Expertise in Data Engineering and implementing multiple end-to-end DW projects in Big Data environment

• Experience in building and deploying production level data driven applications and data processing workflows/pipelines

• Experience with data processing and storage frameworks like Hadoop, Spark, Kafka

• Experience with performance Tuning of Database Schemas, Databases, SQL, ETL Jobs, and related scripts

• Good understanding of agile working practices and related program management skills.

• Experience – CICD/ Data Architectures/ Pipelines/ Quality /Code Management.

• Strong communication skills - both verbal and written – and strong relationship, collaboration skills and organizational skills

• Familiarity with modern BI and data exploration tools.

• Experience in leading teams to develop and implement cloud native applications and data services in private, hybrid or public cloud infrastructure like Azure, AWS and GCP
