Director, Product Management


An experienced product director required by Mastercard New Payment Platform(NPP) to help build out the necessary processes and controls to support the management of the new payment services that we are currently deploying around the world.

Mastercard NPP Infrastructure team has developed a range of account to account payment services, which are sold globally to national schemes or banking coalitions, either as managed services, or as software sales (where the client takes responsibility for the day to day running of the service), using Mastercard's proven world class products. Each implementation is unique, to meet the regulatory requirements and customer needs of a market, but leveraging a core code base.

The role is required to focus on the needs of existing live clients and to ensure we effectively deliver against our contractual obligations and to support our customers, in a commercially focused way that protects our brand and shareholder returns. For example, the role will require developing processes to ensure maintenance releases deliver change in a way that gives value to our clients and allows internal and external stakeholders sufficient time to plan out activities required to support these releases.

Experience in the managing of global products in a regulated payment environment would be very helpful in this role. We are looking for an individual who can also demonstrate experience in working in a complex multi-stakeholder environment, who has a strong product management background with excellent communication and influencing skills, to juggle competing priorities in a way that ensures all stakeholders understand and buy into the processes, governance and decisions that are required to grow the business.


• Surfacing existing contractual obligations to ensure we can effectively plan work into product and customer backlogs.

• Agree and develop mechanisms for triaging any operational, security and any technical debt requirements in a timely manner, to allow scheduling into client releases, alongside customer change.

• Work with regions, commercialisation and core product teams to prioritise the development of work, assisting resource planning and identify cross-product and cross-client dependencies.

• Agreeing principles and developing a framework on how newly developed core functionality is made available to clients, to ensure we fully meet our client obligations but where possible ensuring new features that should be chargeable are understood and managed as such.

• Working closely with the product and engineering community to drive efficiencies in ways of working and deliver value quicker to our markets.

• Champion of our clients and a point of contact for internal stakeholders to help them understand and manage from initial requirements, through development life cycle and ultimately to release of code.

All About You

The ideal candidate for this position should:

• Be an experienced professional in a regulated environment who has been part of a cross-functional team and managed elements of a cross-functional project with demonstrated success building relationships and delivering results with global, multi-cultural and remote teams

• Have experience of interaction with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, through participation in meetings, workshops and events, and be a strong, confident writer and speaker, able to communicate vision and roadmap effectively to a wide variety of stakeholders

• Have financial and business acumen, as well as an understanding of the Mastercard and NPP organization’s strategic goals and mission

• Be customer focused, with a passion for improving ways of working to deliver value

• Work collaboratively to solve problems, be proactive and be able to simplify complex information for effective communication

• Effective engagement and relationship building with business partners across the Mastercard NPP organisation, e.g. Sales, Solutions Delivery, Service management, Legal & Regulatory, Risk and Finance

In addition, desirable experience is:

• Experience in the payments industry

• Experience in creating and documenting business processes with tools such as Visio

• Proactivity in challenging existing ways of working with a view to processes improvements within an approved governance structure
