Job Title

Data Architect

This role requires the holder to steer database solutions through all stages of the development life cycle from bid, concept through architecture, design, build, test and handover to the production.

Key accountabilities and duties:

The role will interface with Senior Stakeholders, Product Analysts, Solution Architecture, Project Management and the delivery teams.

Typically, the role will require the post holder to:

 Produce High Level Solution Designs

 Logical and Physical Data Model;

o Should finalize structure and design requirements;

o Should involve data modeling sessions with selected stakeholders;

o Should document entity definitions

o Should document storage volumetric requirements;

o Should list any known issues with the logical data model;

o Should be the subject of an internal team review; and

 Help maintain the product roadmap for Database Technologies

 Communicate effectively with business analyst stakeholders in other parts of the business and externally

 Ensure that solutions conform to policies and standards and integrates with other parts of the IT infrastructure

 Ensure that solutions meet defined non-functional requirements for performance, scalability, availability, security and manageability

 Ensure choice of appropriate technology, contributing to technical criteria for product / component selection

 Identify, assess and communicate technical risks to the business and operations

 Work with business and Product Development to ensure solutions confirm to product strategy and meet customer needs

 Contribute to the continuous review and improvement of methodology standards and guidelines

 Collaborate with colleagues to ensure architects have a design they can work with and design and build activities can proceed efficiently

 Provide solutions and technical expertise to development teams, support teams and other teams

 Work with other Architects, Developers, Project Management, Functional and Non-Functional Testers, IT Security, Bid Management, Product Development, key technology suppliers / partners and Operations to ensure full coverage of all stakeholders’ requirements and full, timely communication of solutions at appropriate levels of detail

 Provide guidance and support throughout the development cycle to Development and Delivery teams

 Provide technical documentation from feasibility stage right through to detailed design to match business requirements

 Estimate effort for design and delivery of tasks

 Ensure appropriate governance is exercised at all times to maintain control and to meet audit requirements

 Evaluate products for projects and future usage and take responsibility for trialing new technologies

Knowledge, skills and experience:

 Proven experience of delivering complex technical designs and architectures

 Ability to present complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences

 A clear understanding of how non-functional requirements such as performance and availability are delivered by a technical solution.

 Physical and Logical data modelling

 Significant experience in a demanding, high availability environment

 Excellent written and oral communication skills

 Ability to work as part of a team – working on a level playing field with colleagues

 Excellent customer rapport, driven by the need to satisfy customer requirement whilst maintaining a sense of business priority

 Ability to create executable strategic and tactical plans and to organise self and others to execute these plans

 Ability to work unsupervised

 Flexibility to take on new products, services, strategies, ways of working

 Knowledge of NoSQL technologies

 Kafka architecture

 Financial payment processing experience

 Shell Scripting, Perl and awk

 Ability to find solutions to customer issues and ways through barriers to overcome difficulties
