Senior Software Engineer, Cloud Microservices-1

Who is Mastercard?

Mastercard is a global technology company in the payments industry. Our mission is to connect and power an inclusive, digital economy that benefits everyone, everywhere by making transactions safe, simple, smart, and accessible. Using secure data and networks, partnerships and passion, our innovations and solutions help individuals, financial institutions, governments, and businesses realize their greatest potential.

Our decency quotient, or DQ, drives our culture and everything we do inside and outside of our company. With connections across more than 210 countries and territories, we are building a sustainable world that unlocks priceless possibilities for all.

Overview

Our team’s mission is to make payments easy, fast and as secure as possible. That’s why we’ve developed technology that enables mobile payments (Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, Garmin Pay, etc.) and secure, tokenized remote commerce payments. We call the set of services delivering this "MDES”. We’ve experienced incredible success and growth, with 10s of billions of transactions being processed each year, however now we are focusing on ensuring the success continues as we scale MDES even further.

Our focus is on the best possible customer experience. We’re making our services faster, more reliable and more scalable whilst meeting emerging on-soil regulation and increasing demand across the globe. Right now, our applications are deployed into our on-premises infrastructure, but to meet these challenging goals we need them to be deployable into the public cloud. That’s where you come in.

We are searching for new team members with first-hand experience of developing and deploying secure, performant, reliable, resilient, distributed applications both in private and public cloud platforms. You will have the boundless energy, enthusiasm and drive to deliver the next phase of this mission-critical transformation.

Role

As a Senior Software Development Engineer in the Cloud Acceleration team you will:

• Work within small collaborative team of product managers and software engineers;

• Develop microservices-based solutions on the cloud, focused on achieving positive customer outcomes, customer journeys and customer experience;

• Take true ownership and responsibility for the software that you develop, its maintenance characteristics and champion our adoption of technology standards and opinionated frameworks.

• you have worked extensively on server-side, backend applications and technologies;

• you have lots of experience developing using strongly-typed languages such as Java, Go, C, Scala, Kotlin, etc. – Java is the main language we use at Mastercard;

Our teams and values:

  • We work within small collaborative teams consisting of software engineers and product managers;

  • Our customer’s success is at the core of what we do;

  • We are diverse and inclusive teams from many backgrounds and with many experiences;

  • We believe in doing well by doing good through inclusive growth and making ethical and environmentally responsible decisions.

Our back story:

Mastercard was first to introduce contactless card payments in 2001; and soon after in only 2002 introduced the first mobile phone contactless payment. Twenty years ago! A decade later, Mastercard’s mobile payment application and MDES enabled the introduction of Apple Pay, followed shortly after by Google Pay and Samsung Pay. In the almost ten years since, mobile payments on the Mastercard network have grown to tens of billions of transactions a year and there are many more “- Pay” digital wallet options available, all over the world.

MDES is also securing your cards on file with merchants such as Netflix and Amazon, so that card information is replaced by tokenized data and every transaction is cryptographically secured using similar technology to those used in digital wallets. It also secures the cards in “Click To Pay”, the new way of making online payments safer that is supported by Mastercard and all the other payment networks. MDES has scaled beyond its origins and has become the critical enabler for making even more online payments safer.

COVID-19 Considerations

In many locations, we’ve implemented a virtual hiring process and continue to interview candidates by video or phone. In addition, in our NYC offices, as required by law, only individuals who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will be permitted inside Mastercard offices unless a reasonable accommodation has been approved in advance.

Corporate Security Responsibility

All activities involving access to Mastercard assets, information, and networks comes with an inherent risk to the organization and, therefore, it is expected that every person working for, or on behalf of, Mastercard is responsible for information security and must:

  • Abide by Mastercard’s security policies and practices;

  • Ensure the confidentiality and integrity of the information being accessed;

  • Report any suspected information security violation or breach, and

  • Complete all periodic mandatory security trainings in accordance with Mastercard’s guidelines.
