Lead Engineer

Mastercard Payment Gateway Services is a payment service provider. We offer merchants

around the world an omni-channel payment gateway with integrated services (e.g. fraud risk

management, alternative payment methods, currency conversion) while reducing their exposure to pain (chargebacks, PCI-DSS compliance etc).

With offices across the US, in Europe, India and Australia, the sun never sets on the gateway

development team. Some out of hours work is inevitable but overall, we avoid a culture of

overtime. Using mature technologies we deliver challenging projects demanding the involvement of a number of off-site, out-of-timezone functional groups to achieve the required sign-offs and progress through the gates of our periodic release process.

Working alongside a number of small scrum agile teams to develop, test and deliver changes

to our transaction engines, reporting tools and supporting systems.

As one of our most senior engineers we depend on your ability to take the lead €“ whether

that€™s driving through a time critical feature, managing up a scope compromise, or mentoring

the rest of the team.

You have great fundamental engineering skills across multiple technologies and approaches. - You understand how to operate in a large corporate environment with many silos and

sometimes contradictory incentives or requirements.

You are an advocate for technical and process improvement who always leaves things better

than you found them.

Key Responsibilities

Pioneer and own technical expertise that spans all areas of the payment gateway

In the context of our agile methodology, help teams agree and meet delivery


Provision of critical insight on designs and code reviews at a low level of technical detail

Enable rapid incremental delivery by influencing the phased adoption of best practice

integration and deployment techniques


Experience with the following an advantage:

Java 8 / Spring / Mockito / Cucumber

RESTful web services, JSON / JMX remoting

Postgres / Elastic

Configuration management (Puppet) and a Linux OS (RHEL)

Git, GitLab / GitHub and continuous integration (Jenkins)

All About You

Immediately effective, with proven experience providing technical leadership in a

corporate environment

Able to navigate complex change management systems, review boards, and produce a

variety of documentation as required

Highly skilled in Java web service development €“ especially microservice architecture,

automated testing and deployment

May have a Computer Science or related degree, or be qualified by experience

Demonstrable commitment to professional development
