Lead R&D Researcher - Quantum Computing
Mastercard Foundry R&D is Mastercard's global research and development group, and is head-quartered in our Tech Hub in Dublin.
Part of our research strategy is focused on Quantum Computing, with a view to bringing commercially viable, quantum-powered use cases to market within the next number of years.
We are looking for a passionate and experienced researcher with a background in Quantum Computing (QC) and Quantum Technology (QT) to lead this initiative.
This role will report to the head of research, and will focus on developing quantum-powered software applications and solutions. In this role, the successful candidate will have an opportunity to shape Mastercard's QC and QT strategy.
This role will be hands-on and will blend technology and strategy. The successful candidate will:
Lead Mastercard R&D's QC/QT strategy
Work with internal business units to identify and prioritise suitable QC/QT use cases
Develop and execute short-term and long-term QC/QT research plans
Opportunity to lead a research team in QC
Engage with QC/QT vendors and partners
Generate patent applications to protect the intellectual property of innovative products and technologies
Participate in Mastercard's QC collaboration projects with external partners
Develop QC/QT proofs-of-concept, leading ultimately to commercially viable products and services
Effectively communicate results and achievements both internally and externally
Skills / Abilities
Strong theoretical and practical working knowledge of Quantum Computing and Quantum Technology topics
A proven track-record in commercial R&D achievement and delivery
Background in mathematical combinatorial optimization problems
Familiarity with QC APIs such as IBM Qiskit and D-Wave Ocean
Fluency in python, with experience with numerical toolkits such as NumPy and PyTorch
Familiarity with a broad range of Quantum Technology topics, such as quantum communication and quantum key distribution a bonus
- PhD in a relevant discipline (computer science, mathematics, physics) a strong plus
