Director, MNO Product Management

The Global MNO Products and Solutions team is part of the Mastercard Product organization, and has end-to-end responsibility for making great products, solutions and propositions for MNOs that delight the user and allow the MNO, mastercard and our partners, to achieve our goals of digitization, diversification and financial inclusion.

This role is responsible for designing, developing and bringing to market, products and technology that meet mastercard strategy, and address needs in the MNO vertical, including MNO Customers, industry partners and end-users. This role will also lead the definition of a product line strategy and technology framework to develop and deliver products in the MNO space. To do this, this role will need to make significant improvements in mastercard’s ability to deliver and scale solutions to/with MNOs, and the wider MNO ecosystem. Additionally, this role must simplify our 3rd party partners’ ability to deliver solutions to MNOs in partnership with mastercard.

This role works cross-functionally with internal and external partners.

The right candidate must have a comprehensive understanding of the MNO, Mobile Money and payments industries, a deep and broad knowledge of MasterCard’s assets and capabilities, and a strategic and problem-solving mindset. He/she must be well versed in the financial technology, payments technology and MNO technology space.

This a newly formed role and therefore the job description will evolve over time - albeit within the broader parameters of Product Development. As such, the ideal candidate must have the subject matter expertise and analytical acumen, to identify and work on new goals and grow the role beyond the initial job description, with the help of his/her manager.

This role will have regional responsibilities (Middle East & Africa), and will report to the Global Vice President, MNO Products & Solutions.

Role & Responsibilities:

Specifically, this role will have the following responsibilities:

• Drives development of new products in anticipation of, or in response to, customer needs, market trends, competitive needs and opportunities

• Designs, develops and writes product requirements, defines customer personas, defines consumer journeys

• Determines market size and market opportunity size for new products

• Leads and fully owns the definition and execution of a technical product platform strategy and execution plan, encompassing mastercard and 3rd party partners, to enable significantly better delivery of solutions to the MNO vertical

• Sets the vision and direction for the platform, technology and operations design of assigned products

• Owns the development of detailed feature requirements for all MNO products and Solutions, including working with MNO Product Management colleagues, to translate business requirements to technology / platform feature requests

• Responsible for project management for key projects with O&T and other mastercard units

• Builds tight connections to resources to drive overall strategy and teams inside the organization while influencing those outside the organization to deliver the expected results

• Owns the development pipe for new features and ensures business prioritization is implemented by 3rd party and mastercard tech teams

• Owns and oversees product portfolio-wide product operations

• Responsible for producing product/solution Business Requirement Documentation, including but not limited to Business Requirements Definition, Solution Requirements Definition, Customer Journeys/Flows, Customer Personas, and other suitable, best-in-class documentation to develop and capture business requirements

• Will play a leadership role in the conceptualization, development and definition of new products and features

• Generates and evaluates ideas to enhance MasterCard’s suite of product offerings and create a competitive advantage

• Validates technical delivery and ensures that output complies with the product requirements and is fit-for-purpose

• Integrates new requirements into existing product and service solutions leveraging project management skills and product development expertise

• Ensure compliance with PME

• Provides input and recommendations for pricing and product positioning in the market

• Generates new and innovative product solutions that support corporate or product/segment strategy

• Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish product development directives and initiatives

• Defines business and functional specifications and requirements for new products and services

All About You

• Must have a professional track record working with leading tech companies with direct responsibility of, or high-degree exposure to one or more of: product development, product portfolio management, technology consultation, product solution architecture, requirements analysis

• Must be familiar with API integration, mobile app development, software development in order to be able to work with colleagues in technology and in 3rd party partners, manage projects and provide oversight

• Must have a passion for tech, and enjoy leading external and internal stakeholders through complex problems that are solved by applying best practice and technology

• Must be self-sufficient and able to make the most of opportunities and maintain self-discipline despite setbacks

• Must enjoy working on new problems and thoughtful risk-taking

• Have experience in developing products and solutions in the mobile money / payments space

• Have relevant experience in, and well-rounded understanding of, products and technology for addressing the needs of un-served, under-served and banked segments

• Must have strong experience in building digital payments business / products at scale

• Must possess strong track record in working closely with external customers in a consultative sales and product development context

• Must be self-sufficient and able to make the most of opportunities and maintain self-discipline despite setbacks

• Must have the ability to think holistically, solve problems and propose detailed products and initiatives to achieve the long-term vision

• Broad knowledge of payments / mastercard product and services; familiarity with MasterCard’s digital payments solutions is a strong plus

• MBA degree from a leading business school is preferred

• Certified professionals in design thinking or other product development methodologies preferred

• An engineering background in career will give weight to the applicant, but is not required
