Vice President, Ecosystem Solutions


The Emerging Markets Solutions team is part of the Global Acceptance Solutions organization. The team is being formed with the vision to ‘Make Mastercard the Best Way to Pay in Emerging Markets’. This team's bold ambition is to impact 3 to 4 billion of the world's population, using new solutions with non-traditional and innovative channel partners in countries where our traditional card and POS model has not reached critical mass over the past 50 years.

The role:

The core responsibility of the VP of Ecosystem Solutions is to lead a team of solution architects as part of the Emerging Market Acceptance Solutions team and will play an instrumental role in turning market challenges and insights into opportunities for expanding digital payments to unpenetrated communities of merchants and consumers.

More specifically:

  • Analyze and form a deep understanding of the market dynamics, ecosystem players, regulation, payment economics, payment technology infrastructure to identify gaps where Mastercard can add significant value.

  • Understand the variety of functional capabilities within Mastercard across the different parts of the organization that can be leveraged to create solutions for a specific segment or the wider market

  • Co-create the acceptance expansion strategy with the country team leveraging a variety of Mastercard capabilities such as QR (push or pull), P2P, MNO solutions, BNPL, Contactless (if and where relevant), eCom, MPGS, NPP, Real-Time Payments, Foundry… in addition to non-technical capabilities, such as Franchise rules and services, Pricing and Interchange, mergers & acquisitions and others

  • Ensure that the market strategy is aligned to Mastercard’s global strategy and can contribute to the growth of the network effect globally (cross-border opportunities – interoperability – scalability - replicability)

  • Act as a point of contact with different global subject matter experts of the different capabilities that constitute components of the segment specific or market wide solutions

  • Create, own and govern the RACI model for the market solution blueprint to ensure timely implementation of the solutions bringing the strategy to life

  • Exchange learnings and best practices with other emerging markets of similar archetype, analyze best practices, support further markets with techniques and proven methods to scale solutions faster

  • Review, challenge and consolidate the market and segment needs to feed product development with the most impactful and scalable product concepts and constructs

This is the senior-most role in the Global Acceptance Solutions Hub in Cairo. The VP of Ecosystem Solutions will play an exemplary, guidance and coaching role to all members of the Hub, whose direct managers are remotely located.

  • Consulting experience in multiple markets, and the ability to form an understanding of complex markets / ecosystems, analyzing their dynamics, success drivers and economics

  • Entrepreneurial and a creative thinker to solve business and technology challenges that arise

  • Flexible and adaptable to ambiguity and changing course inherent in the innovation process

  • Strong business acumen and technical aptitude

  • Understands the existing core & digital Mastercard products and has experience in implementing, launching, or scaling them

  • Has demonstrated strategic thinking and a strong execution track record

  • Track record of influencing and driving strategic alignment with cross-functional stakeholders

  • Translating insights into actionable strategies and plans oriented around driving business growth, positive customer experience, and brand perception

  • It’s an advantage if the candidate:

o Has worked or lived in multiple geographies, both in developed and emerging markets

o Has first-hand experience with MoneySend, MPQR, MC Mobile, MasterPass, digital wallets, HomeSend, Transfast, MNO deals or has worked at a Mobile Operator Mobile Money department

COVID-19 Considerations

In many locations, which may change over time, we’ve implemented a virtual hiring process and continue to interview candidates by video or phone. In addition, in some locations, only individuals who have been fully vaccinated will be permitted inside Mastercard offices until further notice.

In the US, Mastercard is a government contractor, which may legally require most Mastercard employees to be vaccinated unless a verified approved medical or religious exemption is granted. Further, we are currently making every effort towards having employees return to work in the office 2 days per week, if that makes sense for their team. Everyone must be vaccinated to enter Mastercard offices at this time. Therefore, we expect all candidates to be vaccinated or to be approved for a medical or religious accommodation prior to commencing work at Mastercard.
