Director Strategic Acceptance Development


The role of Director-Acceptance Lead within the AP Regional Acceptance & Merchant Development team will support and contribute to the regions overall Acceptance & Merchant priorities. These include:

-Supporting relationships with key AP acquirers and developing tangible value and assets €“ elevating and deepening the overall MasterCard engagement with acquirers and acceptance stakeholders as a key customer segments

-Expanding acceptance to realize the vision of a €œWorld Beyond Cash€ €“ growing acceptance into new and untapped categories

-Supporting the diversification and transformation of the AP acquiring landscape €“ addressing and building acceptance opportunities and solutions with new enablers and partners (e.g. PSP€™s, Hardware providers, etc.). Driving MasterCard participation in new acceptance areas such as Acquirer processing.

-Supporting and driving B2B Supplier Enablement.

By developing and supporting the above priorities, the individual will need to create tangible value for the key acceptance stakeholders, address key challenges and opportunities, as well as driving incremental business, product innovation, best practices, strategic thinking and leadership.

The role holder will oversee the key acceptance initiatives as part of focused segment/channel/vertical approach. The individual will need to look at the acceptance system holistically, deal with issues and questions on the acquiring landscape, and business models and proactively identify business opportunities and solutions.

The individual will work with Acceptance Development teams in region and globally, country managers, account managers and product teams.


-Facilitate and accelerate introduction of new acceptance players, business models and technologies into the AP acquiring landscape

-Activities will include introducing new business models (Payment Facilitator, mPOS, etc.) as well as addressing executional needs (e.g. risk and franchise management, partner selection)

-Work closely with in-market Acceptance Leads on thought leadership, strategic thinking and business case frameworks €“ to support small acceptance growth as well as capture cash only segments

-Support the management of key AP acquiring relationships both from a business development (e.g. acceptance growth and value add products) and operational perspective (e.g. rules, franchise, product delivery)

-Identify product synergies/sales opportunities that support relationship development and MasterCard revenue growth (i.e. value add capabilities such as marketing, product, processing, Advisors, MasterPass, PayPass, etc.)

-Support key regional acceptance initiatives that require multi-market coordination and collaboration (e.g. PayPass, MasterPass)

-Drive partner engagement with key acquirers on the adoption and sell-in of MasterCard value add products

-Identify Alliance partners and channels/opportunities that provide the most appropriate basis for acceptance and revenue growth. Driver brand preference with key customer stakeholders.

-Proactively identify and address acceptance barriers and pain points €“ develop models and frameworks in order to create new solutions (e.g. Pricing, Franchise, Legal, Treasury) that can help to overcome acceptance friction

-Develop and gather training tools and programs for acquirers

-Develop and build business cases and proposals to support opportunity development and partnerships with existing and new customers

-Lead ad-hoc research projects, special projects, customer resolutions

-Establish measurement criteria, monitor and track performance on a regular basis

-Conceptualize, develop and deliver presentations for senior management

-Provide a center of excellence expertise on all acquiring matters €“ support key acquiring strategy

-Supporting Commercial Payments in Supplier Enablement, working with issuers, acquirers and B2B payment partners to open merchant acceptance for supplier enablement.

All About You

-Bachelor€™s degree required. Advanced degree or equivalent work experience applying sales leadership preferred

-Significant sales experience in the payments business with exposure to acceptance, acquirer & merchant issues

-Sales strategy development, execution, and account management

-Strategic/consultative selling to large, complex, financial & non-financial institutions

-Proven track record of sales success and ability to meet sales targets

-Significant knowledge of the payments acquiring industry

-Commercial mindset with focus on customer and business orientation €“ able to quickly understand business requirements and translate them into potential business development opportunities for MasterCard

-Knowledge of products, services and solutions within the payments business and ability to identify and address operational challenges is critical

-Develop account plans and strategies to achieve business growth in the region.

-Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in team environment
