Senior Business Leader, Communications - North America


This position works directly with the President of MasterCard Canada, and reports to the Group Executive of Worldwide Communications in the company€™s headquarters in Purchase, NY, and the SVP of Global Products and Solutions, Canada region. This position is a member of the Canada Leadership Team and Canada Operating Committee. The successful candidate will be a driven Communications professional who brings proven experience and a demonstrated track record in the strategic execution of proactive, creative and high-impact communications programming targeting key external audiences and influencers, as well as the equally important employee base.


Create and execute a multi-dimensional strategic communication plan for Canada Region in alignment with key business objectives;

Manage communications across a range of audiences from employees to external influencers using traditional and digital/social media platforms;

Lead, develop and execute a proactive external communication strategy and plan to drive corporate reputation and mitigate risk;

Lead, develop and execute a proactive internal communication strategy and plan to drive employee engagement and understanding of business strategy;

Serve as speechwriter and primary communications counselor for President, MasterCard Canada;

Manage the MasterCard Canada social media strategy involving key influencers in close collaboration with marketing colleagues;

Work in close collaboration with internal business units to create communications plans designed to promote the value of MasterCard€™s products, solutions and advisory capabilities to consumers, banks, merchants and government officials;

Manage MasterCard Canada€™s Philanthropy relationships and programs;

Create, edit and produce all related communications materials €“ press releases, FAQs, key message documents, by-liners, speeches, intranet stories, etc;

Anticipate and manage all communication and PR responses that impact the region with respect to external communications on high profile and sensitive matters;

Serve as official corporate spokesperson and media officer managing all strategic relationships with national media outlets;

Manage relationships, negotiate contracts and facilitate service level agreements for all strategic alliances the region has with external communications-related vendors, spokespersons and agencies;

Manage a 1-2 person team.

Participate in a leadership capacity at regional Advisory Board events to provide expertise and advice on public relations, communications issues.

All About You:

Experience in Communications role;

Previous experience in the payments and/or financial services industry;

Extensive experience in media relations;

Social media expertise;

Superior verbal and written communication skills;

Self-starter with experience creating strategy and executing tactics;

Bilingual desirable;

Budget management experience;

Ability to think conceptually and strategically;

Perseverance, political and interpersonal savvy, resilience and thoughtful risk-taking


Minimum undergraduate degree in Communications

Post graduate (MBA) education preferred
